OUR BEACH AND BACKYARD
|
|
Our
Backyard is all barefoot sand--however (Cayman is a limestone island) the shore
at waters edge is a natural beach, which is both rocky & sandy
(recommend pool shoes) and one can walk East or West for hundreds of yards without
seeing a soul. This part of the island is well known for the best seashell
collecting on the island,
so you are certain to find conch shells, periwinkles and
other treasures that appear with the tide.
Every summer we have a few green
turtles dig their nests at the end of the gazebo boardwalk (pictures below). The rocky sea bottom behind the
house (no "turtle grass")
slopes very
gradually as you swim out,
perfect for using the
two ocean kayaks, snorkeling or going for a shore dive. The water varies from
brilliant sapphire blue to cool turquoise.
A
very pristine "mini-wall" of coral heads
lies straight off the beach
(200 yards) in about 25 ft. of water,
and the magnificent "Cayman
Wall" is just 100 yards further (where the water turns dark blue in the
backyard pictures above and below). |
